Coach Registration Information – 2026–27 Season 

Coach Applications 

Coach applications are now open for all divisions. All interested head coaches and assistant coaches must complete the online application process before being considered for team placement. 

 We are currently seeking coaches for all divisions: 

  • U7 Initiation 
  • U9 
  • U11 
  • U13 

Whether you're an experienced coach or new to the bench, we welcome your involvement! 

How to Register as a Coach 

  1. Register Online 

Don’t have an HCR Spordle account? You can create one through the same link.
If your Spordle account isn’t linked to Whitemud West Hockey, request a transfer by emailing: 

registrar@whitemudwest.com
Include: 

  • Your full name 
  • Your birthdate 

You’ll be notified once the transfer is complete and can proceed with coach registration. 

 

  1. Mandatory Requirements

The following requirements must be completed prior to team selection and participation: 

☐ Shift Forward Program
The Respect in Sport – Activity Leader program has been replaced with the Shift Forward program for all new coaches. Returning coaches with previously expired RIS certifications will renew through the Shift Forward program. Whitemud West Hockey has prepaid registration codes available for coaches required to complete the program. If required, instructions and the prepaid code will be emailed to you once your coaching application has been processed. 

 

☐ Vulnerable Sector Check
A current Vulnerable Sector Check is required in accordance with Hockey Alberta policies. Whitemud West Hockey also has prepaid links and codes available for Vulnerable Sector Checks. Information and instructions will be emailed to coaches as required following application review. 

You will receive an email from PoliceSolutions.ca – Edmonton Police Service to complete the check online. 

Important: Whitemud West does not receive the completed police check automatically. It is the coach applicant’s responsibility to send the completed Police Check directly to:

☐ Hockey Alberta / Hockey Canada Certifications
Required coaching certifications must be completed based on the division and level you are coaching. 

Additional required coaching courses completed at the coach’s expense will be reimbursed upon successful completion. Please forward receipts for reimbursement to:

☐ Respectful Conduct Expectations
All coaches are expected to support a positive team culture focused on respect, development, communication, and sportsmanship. 

 

Deadlines & Additional Requirements 

  • All minimum coaching requirements must be completed by September 15, 2026  
  • Additional coaching certifications may be required for both Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches  
  • The Registrar will contact you if further certifications are required  
  • Coaches can review their current qualifications through their HCR Spordle account under the Qualifications tab  
  • Beginning in September, in-person clinics will be offered for:  
  • Coach 1  
  • Coach 2  
  • Checking Skills
    Additional details will be shared as they become available  

Head Coach Requirements 

Head Coaches may be required to complete additional certifications based on the division and level of play in accordance with Hockey Alberta and Hockey Canada requirements. 

 Upcoming Coach Clinics 

All required courses completed through Hockey Alberta will be reimbursed once the course is completed. To initiate the reimbursement process, please follow these steps: 

  1. Complete the required course(s). 
  1. Send the receipt for the course along with the transfer email to the registrar at registrar@whitemudwest.com for reimbursement. 

Coach registration for the upcoming season is open June 1, 2026, and available through the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR). 

 

Coach Application Review Process 

  • U9–U13 coach applications will be reviewed by the VP of Coaching  
  • U7 Discovery, Jr. Timbits, and Sr. Timbits applications will be reviewed by the Initiation Director  
  • Applicants may be contacted if additional information or clarification is required  
  • Due to the high volume of applications, all submissions are carefully reviewed  
  • Coaches are not assigned to teams until evaluations and team placements are complete
